All jokes aside, the frequency of this duo's releases in the last ten years has created fatigue among moviegoers who expect a return to Edward Scissorhands, not Alice in Wonderland. Infuriatingly, the film cannot makes up its mind.

In a lot of ways, Tim Burton has not lost that romantic touch that makes up a majority of his films. Barnabas Collins was once a man. A very happy man. With loving parents, a doting fiance and a crazed witch that wishes him dead. Well, they can't all be winners, can they?

Now, hideously deformed, alone, and depressed, Barnabas finds himself shunned by humanity. Can't really say this is a surprise considering how much money this earned at the box office, but I was expecting more from Disney, more specifically a Best Picture for your consideration ad for Toy Story 3, not for a lazy re-imagining from Tim Burton. As the award season goes on I imagine more qualified films will make a push.

I do so wish that Tim Burton would go and do terrible things to himself with a hefty hand spade, and leave us alone.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is about Jack, the creative genius behind Hallowe'en who feels that his efforts with that Holiday have grown stale.
Distraught, Jack sets out for an evening walk in the woods to be alone with his thoughts. By dawn, he's walked farther away from his town than any of the residents have ever been, where he finds a portal to the North Pole. At the pole, he is enthralled by the Christmas cheer and how different it is there from where he lives. He brings back the news of Christmas to his townfolk, but they don't quite get it.
Many people find the Christmas season to be a cloying affair, and take strides to avoid the state-enforced cheer and "five golden rings" nonsense. The Hallowe'en townspeople are like this.
Fair enough.
But there's more to Christmas than the saccharine merrymaking and joyous jubilation. Christmas is a celebration of community and our common threads which form the mesh that is humanity.
