Batman/Superman Team-Up Could Arrive in 2015

Remember that scene in I Am Legend where Will Smith drives through a decimated New York City where a Batman and Superman film was teased? That could very soon become a reality.

According to a report by the LA Times, Warner Bros. will be announcing a Batman/Superman team-up that will follow Man of Steel.

Henry Cavill will reprise the Superman role, and Zack Snyder is slated to direct from a David Goyer script. There is no Batman at the moment, but Christian Bale is unlikely to don the cape and cowl again as he announced that he has moved on from the role recently. Christopher Nolan's involvement is not addressed, but it is expected that he will act as producer again. This move comes as a suprise as it was expected that a Man of Steel sequel and Batman reboot would take place prior to any film starring both icons.

Tentatively titled World's Finest, Warner Bros. is aiming for a 2015 release.

Discussion: Is Hollywood Lazy or Is It Us?

Short of the Week brings this kernel of conversation our way via First Showing
It is acknowledged that the mainstream films that are released on a regular basis are becoming less and less original, but I don't think that we can blame this on Hollywood. This is the result of moviegoers. Audiences flock to go see characters they recognize and feel comfortable with, now, this is nothing new as even in 1981 Superman and James Bond vehicles were two of the top-ten-highest-grossing films.
There is no reason to suggest why a film like Take Shelter or Win Win could not have been included in the top ten for that year, but marketability kept those films from being seen in thousands of theatres. What makes high-grossing films is their ability to be marketed, Gran Torino is surely an example of this. If Gran Torino were to be made without a star like Clint Eastwood, then that film would not have had the success it found with Eastwood at center stage. Without a major marketable star, director …

'Man of Steel' Teaser Trailer

Masterful use of scoring music to what's onscreen. This teaser resembled less a cookie-cutter comic book trailer rather than a Terrence Malick film. Most importantly, there is none of the slow-motion expected of a Zack Snyder film.

Warner Bros. Goes Dark with 'Man of Steel'

As the saying goes, if one of your properties makes billions of dollars, then  just keep applying that same treatment to all of your films. That's not a saying? Oh well. You still have a Man of Steel comic-con poster to enjoy.

Geekery at Las Vegas Licensing Expo

The annual Licensing Expo in Las Vegas is back again this year and big projects are on proud display (Jurassic Park 3D, Iron Man 3, A Good Day to Die Hard).

Hit the link below for pics.

It wasn't just banners, posters, and standees, costuming from Man of Steel was available as well. Particularly, the Jor-El suit that Russell Crowe will be wearing for the film. Enjoy!

Warner Bros. Debuts More Alien Superman Logo

Zack Snyder, David Goyer and Christopher Nolan have wasted no time in distancing their Superman from previous incarnations. One wonders if the introduction of this darker redesign of the classic Superman S means that the storyline will be darker as well.

First Look at Henry Cavill as Superman

It's hard to say we couldn't have seen this coming. The most frequent complaint about Singer's Superman Returns is that is was short on action. So it should come as no surprise that the first look at Zack Snyder's upcoming film features a lot of destruction. The changes to the suit are interesting (though one might be tempted to say it looks like fish scales) and another redub of Donner's suit would have alienated fans. Overall, not bad.

Which Man Will Lead Nolan-Snyder's Superman?

With the announcement that 300 and Watchmen Director Zack Snyder will be taking the reins on the Superman reboot there is only one question left: who will be playing Superman?
From day one my choice has been, and will be Jon Hamm. He plays the quintessential All-American already on Mad Men and a man of his talents could bring some actual depth to the man would be a God. However, Hamm is forty years old and if Warner Bros. is looking for a several picture deal they may look to be going younger. And if that's the case Armie Hammer's impressive performance in The Social Network has to have him in consideration of some sort.
Wherever Nolan and Snyder go with casting we know that General Zod will be the villain (sorry Luthor) hopefully they can convince one of these two to become the man of steel.

What's Next for the Nolans?

With Inception placed firmly into the history books of cinema it is now a good opportunity to look at what the Nolan Bros. will do with their other superhero story.

I may be the only one that feels this way, but after watching Cillian Murphy as Robert Fischer Jr. in Inception, his performance made me think he could pull off the Clark Kent/Superman dynamic. The problem with the casting of a Superman (one actor rumored right now is Joe Manganiello) is that you are also casting Clark Kent. Murphy can pull off that believable fragile Kent down-to-earthness where others cannot. It also helps that Murphy has those intense blue eyes that could register as alien-like to some degree. While he is a tad slim, so was Tobey Maguire before Spider-man, muscle can be put on.

Another persistent rumor is Jon Hamm, but he has skirted the issue several times when asked and he might not be the right choice for WB if they are looking for a younger actor. But if WB is willing to go older (Robert Downey Jr.…
