'The Amazing Spider-man' Trailer

Well, some trailer has finally figured out how to tease its 3-D aspects effectively. That said, this might be a hard-sell for those who don't think a reboot is necessary.

Spider-man Reboot Titled 'Amazing Spider-man'

Sony announced today that the new name of the latest Spider-man film starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will be The Amazing Spider-man. The title alludes to the comic book series where Gwen Stacy was the main love interest, Pete's web-shooters are his own invention, and high-school angst will feature more prominently.
The 3D reboot will be released July 3rd, 2012

This photo looks like a Gotham-y Spider-man, but Andrew Garfield seems to have pegged the look of your friendly neighborhood web-slinger. It is much appreciated that Marc Webb did not just copy and paste the look of the film from the Raimi series.

Comic Book Films and the Psyche

This past decade saw an explosion in superhero films. With comic mainstays such as Batman, Spider-man and Superman, even lesser known ones like Daredevil, The Punisher, and Ghost Rider, seeing their films released in a span of time that needed heroes more than ever.

Spider-man centered around a teenager in Queens, who, after receiving a bite from a radioactive spider, rose to meet the pressures of doing the right thing in a tumultuous time. Forced into rigid circumstances we can do what's best.

For many these films represented a zeitgeist. Those who experie…

Like We'll Forget

UPDATE: Andrew Garfield (Boy A, Red Riding Trilogy) has officially been announced as the new Spider-man. And 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb will take over the new trilogy.
Sony has announced, after several weeks of a head-butting contest between the studio and Raimi, that Spider-Man 4 will be shelved and the Raimi-directed Spider-Man franchise as we know it is dead.
The reboot, which will be scripted by James Vanderbilt, will return Peter Parker to his high school roots where he comes into very close contact with a radioactive spider and yada yada yada.
Do we really need this rebooted less than ten years from the origin story? Well I hope Sony has realized they created a precedent. Whenever this series fails - I'm assuming immediately - they will go right back to the beginning every time. The audience cared where Peter Parker's character was going, we grew up with him. You can't identify with a perpetual teenager. I can only hope that Robert Pattinson isn't anno…
